Work in progress

Life Persists. A small oil in progress…
A gift for my wife this Mothers Day, a drawing of her animal babies, past and present. ❤️
Dream of the Drowning Man
This idea was sparked by the news of a local young man who drowned after being pulled into deep water by a riptide. It reminded me of the times i had come close to drowning, then had me wonder what goes through a persons mind in those last moments, when he or she has given up their last breath. Does their life flash before their eyes?

A Memory of Lightning
This began with a family superstition, on my mothers side. My Granma Tita believed that lightning reflected in a mirror could blind a person. She and her daughters would cover the mirrors during a storm and then cover their heads with towels. They would sit and talk with their heads covered that way until the storm passed.

The Last Unicorn (watercolor)
I felt the need to add watercolor to this drawing, there is a lot of detail but it’s all in the same value range. I needed to make it easier to see what’s going on in the work. I think the watercolor did the trick. The foreground has a primitive setting, down to the dirt road and the srrows as weapons. Going into the background, the road is paved and fighter jets fly overhead…pinche guerra

The Last Unicorn
Started this ink drawing a few days ago. The war in Ukraine certainly influenced the imagery…

El Guero (in progress)
Finally getting to work i began in December, 2021. This cat portrait is a commission and a lot of fun to paint…

El Paso
Began this drawing with no title in mind, but as i was adding texture to one of the trees, i saw the phrase “el Paso” appear on the trunk. So, i added a few more lines to define it and kept it…i guess that’s the title now…
